Recorded from 2020 - 2023. All songs, with exception of a couple last-minute tracks towards the end, were recorded with one ribbon microphone.
On My Way Home
Following the release of the first album, I was trying to expand what I was listening to and find new genres. Following discovery of various spaghetti western film score vibes, I discovered an old demo of this song and drastically changed the intro based on those vibes. And suddenly it was alive. That revision of this song is what led to writing an actual album.
Run Away
Continuing my adventure of new genre discovery, I was listening to a lot of California-vibe sounds. The main ideas of this song came during a stay in San Fransisco when I was traveling down CA-1 after visiting Meir Woods. Initially focusing on writing a song mostly based on guitar chords driving the rhythm, I think this may be the only song I've written without a solo.
Nesting in Trees of Green
This was actually the one song from the original Hawks and Haze days that we played at a few shows but never got recorded. I believe we always referred to this as "The Bird Song." Basically the same vibe as that, but with entirely new lyrics and many more tracks. This was probably the hardest song for me to finish as I wanted to pay homage to its initial form while still letting it evolve into what I had always been hearing in my head. I actually came close to scrapping this song but fortunately discovered some additional ideas for it days before completing the remaining mixing for the album.
One More for the Road
Similar to a couple others, this was another forgotten demo that was discovered and revived. I think this may actually be the 3rd version of this song.
Interlude in the Nude
This stemmed from a late night session of random solo jams where I was first experimenting with recording.
Swim
This was the last song written for the album. As some of the other songs ventured into new territory for me, this song needed to be a return to the fuzzy psych sounds that always speak to me.
Cold electrifying blue
Pulsing back and forth through you
Experiences that are new
Let us go and swim
Strobing lights and gentle tide
Pulling you throughout this ride
Time to sink away and hide
Time to sink or swim
Warm within and cold around
Vanishing view and sound
Disappear to not be found
I forgot to swim
